Canon is a Japanese multinational corporation; they specialize in manufacturing of imaging and optical products like cameras, camcorders, steppers, computer printers, photocopiers and medical equipment. Canon was founded on August 10, 1937, originally named Seikikōgaku kenkyūsho (Precision Optical Industry Co. Ltd.); Canon was founded by Takeshi Mitarai, Goro Yoshida, Saburo Uchida and Takeo Maeda.
Canon lack the facility to produce its own optical glass, their first-ever camera incorporated Nikkor lenses from Nippon Kogaku K.K (Changed to Nikon Co.,); in 1934, Canon made their first-ever 35 mm camera with focal plane based shutter, the camera was called Kwanon; named after Buddhist Goddess of Mercy. Kwanon was produced in prototype form and it was never released for sale. Canon registered the Canon trademark in 1935 and made their first production camera in 1936, named Hansa Canon. It also incorporates 35mm focal-plane-shutter camera from Nikon.
Canon developed the first indirect X-ray camera in Japan in 1940; in 1958, they introduced a field zoom lens for television broadcasting and Canon introduced the Reflex Zoom 8 in 1958. The Reflex Zoom was the world’s first movie camera with a zoom lens and Canonflex. Precision Optical Industry was changed to Canon Camera Co., Inc. in 1947; the name was later shortened to Canon Inc. in 1969.
